Draw like da Vinci!

Description

Geometric constructions have always been a part of our school mathematics curriculum. But rarely do these constructions give students a chance to reason out why they work. The geometric reasons behind these constructions are usually never discussed. In this unit, students will revise the geometric constructions they have learned before and figure out newer constructions in the context of making a design. While revising the older constructions, the students should try to understand the geometric reasons behind why these constructions work.

These constructions also nurture children’s creative potential, and enhance their spatial visualization skills of both two- and three-dimensional figures and objects. These skills can empower students in doing well in physical designing activities, whether using wood, paper, board, or plastic, as well as help in computer-based designs.

Students should be familiar with basic geometric constructions like perpendicular bisectors.
